What is Nautical Science

Nautical science refers to the basic knowledge required to safely navigate and operate a ship. These subjects
include:

• Navigation which is how to plot positions and courses to track movement through water, and rules of the road required for safe navigation
• Seamanship, which is the basic operation of the shipboard equipment and tolls, as well damage control procedure

What is Marine Engineering

Marine Engineering is more complex technical knowledge that involves the following subjects:

• Buoyancy and why ship float
• Stability and why ship capsize
• How ships are constructed
• Ship propulsion including sails and combustion engines
• Ship steering
• Shipboard mechanical and electrical machinery procedures

All candidates will need: High school certificate with pass grades at minimum GPA 2.5.
