What is Nautical Science
Nautical science refers to the basic knowledge required to safely navigate and operate a ship. These subjects
include:
- Navigation which is how to plot positions and courses to track movement through water, and rules of the road required for safe navigation
- Seamanship, which is the basic operation of the shipboard equipment and tolls, as well damage control procedure
HND In Marine Engineering
Course Title: HND in Marine Engineering (In collaboration with, South Tyneside College, United Kingdom)
Course Duration: 2 years
Phase 1: at Shah Marine and Business Institute, Dhaka – 45 weeks (700 hours academic and 400 hours workshop)
Phase 2: at South Tyneside College, United Kingdom. – 45 weeks Course Capacity: 50 students
What is Marine Engineering
Marine Engineering is more complex technical knowledge that involves the following subjects:
- Buoyancy and why ship float
- Stability and why ship capsize
- How ships are constructed
- Ship propulsion including sails and combustion engines
- Ship steering
- Shipboard mechanical and electrical machinery procedures

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All candidates will need: High school certificate with pass grades at minimum GPA 2.5.
